within premises
-

a policy. |

When you take out a mortgage, the lender
normally insists you take out buildings
insurance too. Even if you don't have a
mortgage, it's worth insuring the main structure
of your property (including walls, gates,
outbuildings, fences and fixed structures
internally such as kitchen units). Buildings
insurance normally includes:
- Fire and
smoke damage, lightning strike, explosion or
earthquake
- Storm or
flood damage (please check exclusions)
- Damage
caused by leaking water or oil
- Accidental
damage to pipes and cables
- Water
freezing
- Theft or
attempted theft
- Collision by
vehicles, animals or aircraft
- Riot,
violent disorder, strike, labour
disturbance, civic commotion or malicious
acts
- Subsidence,
heave or landslide
- Breakage or
collapse of aerials or satellite dishes
- Falling
trees, branches, telegraph poles or
lamp-posts
- Alternative
accommodation or loss of rent
- Loss of
metered water
- Accidental
damage to fixed glass, hobs or sanitary ware
Make sure to check
what's included in your policy - certain types
of damage may not be covered and different
excesses may apply to certain types of claim
such as subsidence. Your buildings cover may
also become invalid if you leave your property
unoccupied for more than a specified period
(usually 30 days). |
